About

Hi Everyone!
I’m Jan McClure, a.k.a. The Shutter Joy Lady. Since I picked up my new Canon Rebel a few months ago, I’ve been unstoppable, literally photographing everything in sight in and around Peachtree Corners.

Sunset in Peachtree Corners. I love the sun’s reflection on the azaleas…another thing that makes this place special.

Appalachian Mountains

The early years in the Appalachian Mountains. That’s me, thinking I look like Lana Turner in my rolled up pedal pushers, sitting on my beautiful sister-in-law’s lap. Georgia looks stunning on top of that ‘57 Ford bel air.

I love sharing the joy of a tranquil sunset, photographing majestic mountain ranges — even capturing the simple beauty of Bluebird perched high in the treetops. I like to think of Peachtree Corners as “God’s Corner” because of its soaring pines, sweet magnolia blossoms, peace and serenity– and of course all of our amazing family and friends. When I’m not heading my own marketing and media shop, I’m out exploring nature, seeking unusual finds—both old and new—and enjoying all things that are peachy keen, southern, as well as “this, that and the other.”

A little about me…I grew up in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains –where coal was king. I have tons of sweet memories of friends and family throughout that extraordinary region.  I was a bit of a nerd and bibliophile in school. I wanted to expand my horizons so I went to college and majored in journalism –landing a job as a reporter with a daily newspaper shortly after graduation. My first “beat” was covering crime and writing obituaries—what a combination!

I met Tom, “Frame Guy” (he sells eyeglass frames, not picture frames) two weeks before graduating from college – on Derby Day. Ours was a whirlwind courtship. We saw each other 13 different times over 8 months before tying the knot. Best decision I ever made. After marriage I joined my hubby and moved to the heart of Bluegrass country, where we lived before moving to Georgia.  We have an incredible son and beautiful daughter-in-law. They are the light of our lives!

I hope you enjoy my blog, Shutterjoylady.com. Here I write and share photos about my experiences and special interests.

In Snapshots, I post photos of everyday life here in Peachtree Corners, including landscapes, nature and cute little critters, along with a few road trips sprinkled in from time to time.

In Suppers & More, I share tried & true recipes handed down from generations of our combined family of great cooks, as well as deliciously, yummy dishes from here in the South.

In Joypreneurs, I highlight talented business owners as well as accomplished & aspiring hobbyists.

In Southern Chic, I showcase Southern style, unique finds –both old and new.

In my Book section, I talk about books current and classic, and sometimes interview authors.

That’s Frame Guy and me taking in the mountain vistas of the Kankamagus Highway, a 26-mile stretch of sheer wonder in New Hampshire. That trip last year, with all of the New England foliage, sparked my passion for photography.

I can’t wait to share a little “shutter joy” with y’all as I continue to learn more about photography and brush up on my writing as topics pop into my head.  Let’s start on this journey together!
